Louisville has already opted to prematurely end the second coming of Bobby Petrino, as the Cardinals have cratered in their first season after the departure of 2016 Heisman winner Lamar Jackson to the NFL. The fall from grace can hardly be pinned solely on the loss of Jackson, however, as the Cardinals have failed in all facets of the game.

A big issue facing Louisville this season has been turnovers. The offense has been among the half-dozen worst teams in the nation at giving away the football. When the opponent has the ball, Louisville’s defense has rarely managed to generate any takeaways. As a result, teams consistently have doubled up the score on the Cardinals in 2018.

Add it all together and what you get is a 2-8 campaign where Louisville was guaranteed to miss the postseason by the first weekend of November. Instead of preparing for a bowl game, Louisville will be preparing for life under a new head coach.
