Florida State Football: 3 takeaways from huge win over Boston College
Florida State football kept its bowl hopes alive with a huge home win over Boston College. What did we learn from the Seminoles’ win?
Who saw this coming? Florida State held its own, kept the bowl streak alive — for now — and took down No. 20 Boston College in Tallahassee, 22-21.
The Seminoles overcame an eight-point fourth-quarter deficit to upset the Eagles and improve to 5-6 on the season. With the victory, the Seminoles keep their bowl hopes alive and could make it 37 straight seasons if they can beat Florida in the final week of the regular season.
Willie Taggart’s team has gained some momentum with the comeback win and it wasn’t until Deondre Francois completed a 74-yard touchdown pass with under two minutes left in the fourth that Seminole fans felt good about the streak.
What’d we learn from the improbable win by the Seminoles over Boston College?
3. Cam Akers has some life in those legs
After a rough season, it was looking like sophomore Cam Akers was going to finish the 2018 season without reach 100 yards rushing, but he was able to break out against the Boston College Eagles.
Akers showed signs of life after a nightmare season, running 14 times for 110 yards and a touchdown, approaching that 700-yard mark on the year. His 7.9 yards per carry was his best effort of the season in a single game and he’ll likely carry that momentum over into the season finale.
This is a great sign for the Seminoles who were beginning to worry about the sophomore and former five-star. The departure of Jimbo Fisher seemed to have a negative effect on him, but it’s clear he still has all the talent.
Could this game catapult Akers into the 2019 season with confidence? It looks like a confidence-boosting effort.
