It was a quick day at the office for Georgia football’s starters, as they put a hurt on UMass Saturday to remain alive in the College Football Playoff race.

Georgia clinched the SEC division title earlier this month, as they use UMass and Georgia Tech to prepare for a Dec. 1 rematch with Alabama. The two squared off last year in the national championship game after both advanced in the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Behind a 700-yard offensive day, the ‘Dawgs crushed the Minutement, 66-27, scoring nine offensive touchdowns. They have now picked up four consecutive wins since a loss to LSU, with all of them being decided by at least three possessions.

Star quarterback Jake Fromm was perfect in limited action, going 5-for-5 for 106 yards and a touchdown before handing the offense over to true freshman Justin Fields. Fields, a dual-threat who played quite a bit earlier in the year, went 5-for-8 for 121 yards and two scores, adding 100 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

As a collective unit, the Bulldogs ran for over 400 yards, as six different players had at least 49 on the day. They averaged over nine yards per carry against the over-matched Minutemen.

Ross Comis, a senior for UMass, completed 23-of-31 passes for 278 yards with two touchdowns an interception. The 71.4 completion percentage marked a season-best for Comis, who has thrown for over 1,600 yards with 12 touchdowns and just three picks on the year.

Andy Isabella, one of the top wide receivers in the country who has been generating NFL interest, had 15 catches for 219 yards with two  touchdowns. He is now over 100 receptions and 1,500 yards on the year, including a 303-yard performance vs. Liberty.

UMass lost its second straight and fell to just 2-5 over the last seven. They have allowed 50-plus points six times this year, going 1-5 in those games.

An independent, the four wins by the Minutemen matched their win total from a year ago, which are the most since joining the FBS ranks. UMass went 5-6 back in 2011 competing at the FCS level.
