Earlier in the day, Oklahoma State delivered a gift to Iowa State, but the Cyclones were unable to cash in against Texas football with a win.

Instead, the Longhorns kept their hopes alive for a rematch with Oklahoma, scoring a 24-10 victory over the Cyclones Saturday night in Austin.

If the Longhorns win next week over Kansas, and the Sooners beat West Virginia, those two will square off for the Big 12 title. If West Virginia tops Oklahoma and Texas wins, there will be a three-way tie among the top teams. A loss by the Longhorns and Mountaineers could also create a crazy tie for the runner-up spot.

West Virginia does hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over Texas thanks to its 42-41 victory on a Will Grier game-winning two-point conversion call earlier this month. The Longhorns topped Oklahoma, 48-45, back in October.

But for now, let us focus in on what happened Saturday night between Texas and Iowa State. The Cyclones, fresh off a school-record five consecutive conference wins, were unable to get on track down south. The offense misfired early and often, and the defense couldn’t contain the speed of the Longhorns.

So for now, Iowa State wasted a great chance after the Cowboys upset West Virginia, leaving them only to wonder “what if” as they move to close out the year with Kansas State next weekend at home.

Here are three takeaways from Texas’ win vs. Iowa State Saturday night.
