UCF football extended its winning streak to 23 games as it took down No. 24 Cincinnati. What did we learn about UCF and Cincy in this one?
This one was hyped for quite awhile and I’m not sure it lived up to the hype, at least not on both sides of the ball. This one was dominated by UCF from the start and the Golden Knights did not let up until the clock hit zero.
Now, of course no one is shocked by this development. However, this game did teach us a bit about both of these teams. They may not be Power Five schools, but they sure are making the case that it doesn’t matter.
3. Don’t hang your heads, Bearcats
Did Cincinnati knock off the Golden Knights of UCF? No. Was their defense able to slow down McKenzie Milton and his offense? No, not really. That doesn’t mean that this team should hang their hands and be done with the season as it is.
This is a group that limped to 4-8 a year ago. Now, they will be playing for a 10-win season on Friday against Eastern Carolina. That is a big time turnaround that the Bearcat faithful should be extremely proud of.
They did not let the score deter them against UCF either and that- to me- is a big deal. A year ago, the 4-8 team would have folded and let the clock run out and hope to let another disappointing loss go unnoticed by a fan base that had long since stopped paying attention. That wasn’t the M.O. for Cincy in this one though. In this one, it was about putting their best foot forward on every play and trying to find a way to win.
Congratulations Cincinnati. Your season isn’t over yet. Don’t give up now.
