There’s a lot of anticipation surrounding the impactful Apple Cup in rivalry week so that Washington State football can prove itself once and for all.

It will be interesting to see what happens in this week’s edition of the College Football Playoff Rankings with some shakeups and very close calls in the top 15 from Week 12. In the Week 13 version of the AP Poll, Washington State football landed the best ranking in the Pac-12 by far. Washington State football came in at No. 7 in both the AP and Coaches Poll.

In Week 12, Washington State football put together a complete performance to dominate the Arizona Wildcats at home. Beating Arizona by the final score of 69-28 at home made for the second straight dominant outing for Washington State.

Previous to knocking off Arizona, Washington State knocked off the Colorado Buffaloes by the final score of 31-7. Colorado is going through a free fall in the PAC-12 South right now, but that matchup appeared to be a potential trap game for Washington State. For some reason, Washington State didn’t gain too much ground in the polls after those two wins.

Washington State is the lowest ranked team of any Power Five conference leader. The Oklahoma Sooners rang in at No. 6 as the leader of the Big 12. And the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide lead the SEC, No. 2 Clemson Tigers lead the ACC, and No. 4 Michigan Wolverines lead the Big 10. Oklahoma, Alabama, Clemson, and Michigan are all within striking distance of a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Meanwhile, Washington State is still on the outside looking in for the AP and Coaches Poll. The College Football Playoff Rankings for Week 13 are likely to have the Washington State Cougars in a similar position to Week 12. But, here’s a few reasons why Washington State football proved it’s worthy of more than the No. 7 spot in the nation.
