Texas Football: Longhorns look to clinch title game berth with win vs Kansas
By Dana Becker
All Texas football needs to do Friday is scoring a win over lowly Kansas to secure a spot in the Big 12 championship and a possible rematch with Oklahoma.
That’s it. Just defeat the Jayhawks and Tom Herman has the Longhorns back playing for a conference title. Should be easy you say, right?
Well for starters, Sam Ehlinger has an injury and his status for the contest remains in doubt. Shane Buechele came on last week and was perfect as Texas knocked off Iowa State at home, but how will Buechele perform if he is handed the role of starting quarterback?
There is also this fun tidbit of information as you might remember in 2016 when Kansas ended a lengthy losing streak to the Longhorns with a 24-21 overtime victory that ultimately signaled the end of the Charlie Strong era.
Surely, lightning cannot strike twice within two years, can it? Tune in this Friday to see Texas vs. Kansas and we will find out.

Keys to Victory
Honestly, for Texas, just play your game. Stick to what Herman and his coaches draw up and the Longhorns will be headed to the Big 12 championship. If they get ahead of themselves, though, Kansas does have some offensive firepower and will be likely taking an all-or-nothing approach with the chance to pull the huge upset.
The Jayhawks scored 40 last week on Oklahoma, so if that doesn’t serve as a wake-up call to Texas, nothing will. They also posted a 27-26 victory over TCU late last month inside Memorial Stadium.

Prediction
If Herman is smart, he’ll make sure to put this one away early. There is absolutely no reason to give Kansas any signs of life and let them hang around and score points like they did against the Sooners last week. Drop the hammer, make a statement and move on to preparations for the conference title game. Plain and simple.
Final Score: Texas 45, Kansas 6
