West Virginia and Oklahoma football will square off in a post-Thanksgiving Friday matchup and here’s why the Sooners will take care of business.
Oklahoma has had a nice season thus far, heading into the final week of the regular season with a chance to capture an 11-1 campaign with a trip to the Big 12 title game.
If the Sooners can beat West Virginia on the road in Week 13, it won’t just do wonders for their conference title hopes and national positioning, but also College Football Playoff hopes. They have the talent to compete on the highest stage, but they can’t afford a trip-up in Morgantown against an uber-talented Mountaineer team to end the season.
Oklahoma will take care of business on the arm and legs of Heisman-hopeful Kyler Murray and advance to the conference title game at 11-1 while West Virginia will be looking for a New Year’s Six appearance.
Here’s why the Sooners will go on the road and beat West Virginia.
5. West Virginia is down after the Oklahoma State loss
This may not seem like that big of a deal as losses in college football happen all the time and teams find ways to bounce back. Seasons are long and one loss doesn’t usually ruin things, but for the Mountaineers, their loss wasn’t expected and it was quite back-breaking.
West Virginia not only saw their Big 12 title hopes crushed but also playoff aspirations shattered. Will Grier may be one of the best quarterbacks in college football, but he can’t bring this team back from the brink after a tough loss to an unranked foe on the road.
Oklahoma State was a beatable team and the Mountaineers held a 10-point lead late after what looked like a game-clinching touchdown, but they couldn’t hang on, surrendering two late touchdowns to lose in Stillwater.
This is one of those crushing losses at the end of the year that can smash a team’s confidence.
