Washington Football: 5 reasons Huskies will beat Washington State in Week 13
4. Unlike Cougars, Washington actually has a run game
Being one-dimensional, especially against a tough defense, is never a good thing, even if your one dimension is better than what most teams bring to the table.
Washington State will become one-dimensional against Washington’s defense on Friday night as the Cougars have little semblance of a run game, averaging just over 80 yards per game on the ground. This is going to aid the Huskies’ defense as they’ll be able to key in on the pass and forcing Gardner Minshew to get the ball out quickly — he has no backfield to rely on.
If the Cougars’ passing attack struggles, you can be sure that the offense won’t be able to move the ball without an adequate run game.
Washington, on the other hand, has a solid run game, led by Myles Gaskin. If Jake Browning struggles, you won’t have to worry about the Huskies relying solely on the aerial attack and having the offense freeze up.
If Browning isn’t on his game, he has Gaskin there to bail him out. Minshew doesn’t have that luxury.
