2. Chris Petersen hasn’t lost to Mike Leach at Washington

Everyone loves Mike Leach. Everyone loves Chris Petersen. Together, they are quite the opposite and combine for one big rivalry every season in the Apple Cup.

Unfortunately, since Leach has been in Pullman, he’s never beaten Petersen. Yes, that means The Pirate is 0-4 against the Boise State head coaching legend and the games haven’t been all that close. The Cougars may match up the most talent-wise this season than they have in the past decade, which is good for the rivalry.

Petersen just knows how to win this game and he’s out-coached Leach in each of the four meetings since he’s been with the program in Washington.

That trend will continue as Petersen will pull out all the stops and he just knows how to get his guys up for these big games on the road. Not to mention, there’s a Pac-12 North title on the line.

The winner of this game goes to the conference title game and gets a crack at a New Year’s Six bowl — though Washington State looks New Year’s Six-bound regardless.
