Washington State Football: Offense fizzles in snowy Apple Cup defeat

Washington State football stumbled in the Apple Cup, falling to rival Washington in a snowy affair and putting an end to their College Football Playoff dreams.

The Apple Cup was one again set up as a play-in game for the Pac-12 Conference Championship Game. The Washington Huskies traveled to Pullman to take on the Washington State Cougars on a snowy Fright night affair.

Washington State entered the game as a slight favorite, being credited for their home field and strong season which had already resulted in 10 wins prior to their rivalry contest with the Huskies. One more win would have put them in the mix for a College Football Playoff berth, now they’ll have to wait to hear their postseason fate somewhere else.

The win preserves Washington’s up and down season. The Huskies will take a three-game winning streak into the title game agianst Utah. If they can beat the Utes they’ll be in the conversation for a New Year’s Six Bowl. That seemed out of the question a few weeks ago when the Huskies’ lost two games in the span of three weeks.
