Alabama Football: 3 takeaways from dominant Iron Bowl win vs. Auburn
By Shelbie Warr
Despite Auburn throwing everything they have at the Tide, Alabama football got a win to complete an undefeated regular season run. What’d we learn?
Last season, this game had big time implications. The Tigers shocked the Tide and headed to the SEC Championship with a chance to make it to the Playoff. Of course, they lost to Georgia and Alabama ultimately won the title.
This season, this game has very little implication to anything. The Tide improves to 12-0 to complete an undefeated regular season and another SEC West title. Auburn has struggled this season due to injuries and the amount of players lost to the draft and as a result sit at 7-5 at the end of the 2018 season, awaiting a mediocre bowl game.
What did we learn from this 52-21 Alabama win over the Auburn Tigers?
3. It really is time for the Gus Bus to leave Auburn
A season ago, I called people crazy for wanting to fire Gus Malzahn. I thought that firing a coach who took their team to the SEC Championship game in 2017. However, here we are and I am on their side as the Tigers finish the season 7-5. Yes, that is bowl eligible. No, that is not acceptable by any stretch of the imagination.
The question now isn’t if the Gus Bus is leaving the Auburn station, it is when it will do so. Last season, many said that if he didn’t beat Alabama he would be gone. Now, even with the extension he recently signed that sets him up pretty for seven seasons — it is time to let Malzahn find a new school to be the head coach of because Auburn is not the place for him to be.
