Ohio State Football: 3 takeaways from blowout win over Michigan
By Shelbie Warr
1. Ohio State is on the doorstep of the College Football Playoff
As it stands now, Michigan is basically out of the Playoff conversation. They seemed to be the darling of the College Football world and a shoe in for that No. 4 spot as their only loss came to a team that is also in that top-four: Notre Dame. However, after being smacked around by Ohio State today, the road to the Playoff has come to an end for the Big Blue.
Where does that leave Ohio State though?
Well, they are now in a three way battle with Oklahoma and UCF for that last spot to make a trip to the Playoff. With Mckenzie Milton’s injury, UCF seems all but out of that race as sad as it is to say. We are all praying for Milton to be able to make a return to the field, but some are saying his playing career may be over after this kind of injury.
That leaves us with Oklahoma and Ohio State. Both have one loss. Ohio State was blown out by Purdue. Oklahoma was knocked off in a heartbreaker by Texas, though Kyler Murray was almost able to lead his team back to victory. The question now is this, are we comparing losses or are we comparing where these teams are right now.
If we are comparing losses, it is Oklahoma’s spot all day. However, if we are comparing where these teams are and how they’ve grown, you’ve got to give the edge to Ohio State there.
This one will come down to championship week. This one will come down to Ohio State vs. Northwestern and the repeat of Oklahoma vs. Texas. It will be a battle of Heisman caliber quarterbacks to see if it will be Kyler Murray or Dwayne Haskins that will lead his team into the Playoff.
As it stands though, with the lack of defense over in Norman, my money is on Dwayne Haskins and the Buckeyes. Especially if this is Urban Meyer’s last year due to health reasons, this team will play their hearts out for their coach and that will take them to the top of the college football world.
