3. Jason Shelley has been an able substitute at quarterback

When Tyler Huntley went down with a broken collarbone, it looked like Utah might be doomed. Given the significance of quarterback play in determining conference champions, the Utes were in danger of sliding back into the middle of the Pac-12 South pack.

Instead, Jason Shelley has stepped in and ably managed to keep guiding the offense to victories. In his latest win, Shelley was statistically unimpressive but proved clutch down the stretch in the comeback.

Shelley finished with 141 yards and a touchdown on 19-of-28 passing. The quarterback showed his dual-threat skills as well, rushing for 61 yards and another score on 11 carries. While he finished with only 202 total yards on the day, the young Utah quarterback won his third consecutive start for the Utes.

While Utah would prefer to head into their championship showdown with Washington with their veteran starting at quarterback, Shelley has proven an able replacement for Huntley under center down the stretch.
