2019 NFL Mock Draft: Projected first round after Week 13
I think Herbert would be a reach at No. 4, but I also don’t think the Giants can afford to punt this selection for another year. Eli Manning is unlikely to be in New York for another season after this, and he has struggled mightily under center this season.
The Giants have other needs, but they passed on taking Sam Darnold in the 2018 Draft, and their fanbase might revolt if they pass on a QB again. If Herbert is available when the Giants are on the clock, I think he’ll be the selection.
If management decides to eschew a QB in the first half, and they could if they think one of the other QB’s is roughly on par with Herbert and they could grab one of them at the beginning of the second round, then they could look to solidify their offensive line.
The top offensive linemen on the board would be Alabama’s Jonah Williams and Ole Miss’ Greg Little, both of which could help especially in the running game for current face of the franchise Saquon Barkley.
