3. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish entered Week 13 knowing the game would be their last chance to blow a perfect season and a near guaranteed spot in the College Football Playoff.

The Irish traveled to sunny, Southern California to take on the struggling USC Trojans in the LA Memorial Coliseum. Ultimately, Notre Dame came out on top, but not by a large margin. USC played well and only lost by a single touchdown, 24-17.

With only three other undefeated teams, and a handful of quality wins, Notre Dame has essentially solidified a spot in the playoff.

However, the lasting impression they made was a single score victory over a 5-7 team. Therefore, the Irish will be hard-pressed to move up higher than the No. 3 spot, barring any unforeseen losses by Clemson and Alabama.

Notre Dame will have plenty of time to rest and get healthy in preparation for the playoff.
