With a shot at the Big 12 title game on the line, Will Grier and Kyler Murray had a traditional Big 12 shootout, as neither offense could be stopped in the back and forth contest Friday night. Facing one of the worst defenses in the country, Grier torched the Sooners in the Mountaineers 59-56 home loss.

He finished the game 32-49 with 539 yards passing, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions. The West Virginia offensive line did a heck of a job protecting Grier, as he was only sacked three times and finished with a 184.6 passer rating.

Coach Dana Holgersen wanted to make sure the Sooners secondary was tested early and often, and Grier’s 11 yards per pass attempt were a mind-blowing number to see in such a pivotal game.

The West Virginia offense has been rolling, as Grier has thrown for over 340 yards in their last five games, but without the defense being there to step up, there’s only so many losses a team can have before their candidates play becomes an afterthought.

The Mountaineers will look to bounce back from their two-game losing streak during the postseason.
