The college football regular season has ended, so it’s time to look back and examine the most disappointing teams of the 2018 season.

Everyone loves a Cinderella story, and surprising teams like Washington State and Kentucky have been fun stories all season long. But it’s also fun to examine the teams that all the prognosticators were so wrong about coming into the year.

Preseason rankings are typically a fruitless endeavor, with numerous teams failing to live up to the preseason hype, and with others flying under the radar and ascending the ladder as the season progresses.

Every year brings plenty of disappointing teams, but 2018 saw some blue-bloods have historically poor seasons, with some long bowl streaks being snapped, and another potentially being snapped dependent on a game still to play.

With championship weekend and a few weather-related make-up games all that remains before the start of bowl season, now is the perfect time to take a closer look at the most disappointing teams from the 2018 season.

Disappointment is obviously a relative term, with one program’s disappointment being another team’s dream season. Fans in Happy Valley were undoubtedly disappointed in their 9-3 season that prevented them from being a serious playoff threat, but fans of teams such as Syracuse and Kentucky were absolutely elated with 9-3 campaigns.
