Alabama Football: 3 takeaways from thrilling SEC championship win vs Georgia
By Zach Bigalke
Alabama football pulled off a comeback reminiscent of last year’s CFP national championship against Georgia. Here are three takeaways from the SEC championship game.
327 days after losing to Alabama in the College Football Playoff national championship game, Georgia had a chance to get revenge against the Crimson Tide and defend their SEC title in the conference championship game on December 1. The Bulldogs showed great promise in the first half, pulling out to lead that stuck through halftime and went as high as 28-14 early in the third quarter.
But Alabama continues to prove themselves in a class of their own, weathering injury issues without a hitch as they came back in the second half with 21 unanswered points. Georgia had a chance to respond with a tying score on the final play of the game, but Jake Fromm failed to connect on his Hail Mary attempt. The result was a 35-28 comeback won by Nick Saban’s Tide on the same field where these two teams last clashed.
The win will send Alabama through as the top seed in this year’s College Football Playoff, while the Bulldogs probably missed their chance to return for a shot at the national crown. Instead, they will have to be content with a New Year’s Six opportunity.
