The injury issues continued for Alabama football and Tua Tagovailoa as he got hit hard and came up limping in the first half of the SEC Title Game.

Injury issues were a common theme on conference championship week, starting with the Big 12 Championship Game between the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners. In the SEC Championship Game between No. 1 ranked Alabama football and the No. 4 ranked Georgia Bulldogs, injuries continued to emerge as a storyline.

Star sophomore Alabama football quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had injury issues all season, and it seemed to linger whenever he got it. Most of those concerns for Tagovailoa this fall were with his knee, not his ankle. But, in this SEC Title Game matchup against Georgia he got hit early in the first quarter and came up limping from his ankle.

On the play where he hurt his ankle, Tagovailoa tossed a pick close to the end zone and limped off the field where he was taken to the injury tent on the Alabama sideline. When he came out of the tent, he didn’t have the knee brace on and looked ready to go for the next drive.

This is an injury worth continued monitoring for any college football fan watching this game. Tagovailoa is still battling Oklahoma junior quarterback Kyler Murray in contention for the Heisman Trophy and this game matters a lot in that race.

If Tagovailoa wasn’t ready to go, backup Alabama football quarterback Jalen Hurts was the next up. Hurts got some significant playing time during the regular season and was in a position like this in the past. Tagovailoa has a tall task to take on this physical front seven of Georgia.

Nick Saban has to be worried if his quarterback has some injury issues this early on. The passing game is going to be pivotal for the Alabama Crimson Tide, so the team needs Tagovailoa at full strength. That wasn’t the case in the first half where he finished with a paltry 35 yards passing on three completions.

The Alabama passing game was the catalyst to all the first half success this team had in 2018. Tagovailoa is an accomplished quarterback already, but his injury issues are still lingering and could hamper him in Alabama’s quest to make its way through another College Football Playoff.
