Georgia Football: Bulldogs deserve College Football Playoff berth

Georgia football was “this close” from doing the impossible and beating Alabama. The Bulldogs deserve a College Football Playoff berth and one more shot at the Crimson Tide.

The score was 21-7 in favor of the underdogs as Alabama running back Josh Jacobs thrust himself into the Georgia defensive front and lost the football at the goal line. The entire stadium held their collective breath before the officials made a ruling. Fumble, Georgia football.

That could have been the turning point. It could have been the moment when Georgia seized momentum in the SEC Championship Game for good and secured their spot in the College Football Playoff. Then the officials reconvened. It was a fumble, but Alabama had recovered — in the endzone.

The touchdown cut the deficit to 21-14, setting up Jalen Hurts‘ improbable second half comeback. Georgia couldn’t hang on against the unquestioned top team in the nation, falling by a single score as a Hail Mary pass was knocked away in the endzone.

Alabama will make the College Football Playoff as the No. 1 seed; that’s a veritable fact. But Georgia is just as deserving of a spot in the top four. Here’s why the Bulldogs belong:
