Oklahoma football fought hard and came away with a big win against Texas in the Big 12 Championship Game and here’s why the playoff should be a lock.

Oklahoma got its revenge. When the Sooners saw rival Texas on the schedule in the Big 12 Championship Game, they were drooling at the notion of exacting revenge for an early-season loss in the Red River Showdown.

Texas got the better of the Sooners earlier in the season thanks to a last-second field goal which looked to smash the College Football Playoff hopes, at least at the time, for Oklahoma. The Sooners were exposed on the defensive side of the ball and if there was one thing holding this team back from greatness, it was that defense.

Oklahoma had been held out of the playoff before for its lack of defense, but that may not be the case this season even though the Sooners can’t quite stop anyone.

With the win over Texas in the Big 12 title game, the Sooners should be considered locks for the No. 4 spot in the College Football Playoff, earning a matchup with Alabama.

No one really “wants” Alabama, but the Sooners would welcome the opportunity to face the Crimson Tide for a chance to play in a national title game. They will get that chance.
