Oklahoma Football: 3 takeaways from Big 12 title redemption over Texas
By Phil Poling
The Texas and Oklahoma football programs battled for the Big 12 Championship Saturday in Arlington, Texas, and the Sooners came out victorious, 39-27.
We witnessed two Oklahoma Sooner teams on Saturday in the Big 12 Championship Game. Early on, they looked average, kicking two field goals and punting on their first three drives of the game. They suffered from a few key drops in the passing game too, but once they got comfortable, only Oklahoma could slow themselves down.
Three straight touchdown drives followed that punt, and Kyler Murray looked like his usual self – the most electric player in college football. He led an 80-yard touchdown drive just before halftime, putting six on the board in just 41 seconds.
The Longhorns, who stymied Murray and the rest of the OU offense in the first quarter, couldn’t slow them forever. It’s not about getting a ton of stops in the Big 12, but rather stops in key moments. And with a final score of 39-27, it’s obvious that both teams played above average on defense.
There are three major takeaways from Saturday’s Big 12 Championship, but I’ll tell you now: Texas football is not back.
