UCF Football: Knights clinch AAC and await postseason fate
Turnovers and comebacks are unusual for UCF
Entering the AAC Championship Game the UCF Knights had only three fumbles on the entire year. The only two teams with fewer fumbles lost on the year are Mississippi State and Northwestern. However, by halftime, the Knights had tied their season total of fumbles with three. Darriel Mack Jr. put the ball on the ground at another point in the first half, but the ball was recovered by a UCF lineman.
These turnovers played a large role in Memphis’ early lead and the game being so close. Although, this adversity allowed us to see something that we haven’t had much of an opportunity to experience with UCF over the past two seasons: a legitimate comeback.
Because the Knight’s have been so good over the past two years, they have not been forced to make many big comebacks. But now, we have seen how this team responds when things are not going their way in a big game. This comeback makes them even more appealing to the College Football Playoff Committee. The Knights, as a whole, have the heart of a champion!
Additionally, we got to see how the Knights looked in a big game without McKenzie Milton. Backup quarterback, Darriel Mack Jr. stepped in for the hurt McKenzie Milton to start the biggest game of his life. He started off the game a little slowly, with a couple of fumbles and slightly misthrown passes. However, with his team behind him, he settled in and played a great game. He finished the game with 348 passing yards and two passing touchdowns. Mack Jr. also demonstrated his incredible running ability with four rushing touchdowns.
There should be no doubt in this UCF Knight’s football team because Mack is under center.
