Ohio State Football: Buckeyes’ resume worthy of College Football Playoff

Ohio State football took care of business, downing Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship Game. Is the College Football Playoff the Buckeyes’ next stop?

For the second year in a row, the clock struck zero in the Big Ten Championship Game and Urban Meyer’s Ohio State Buckeyes took their position on the podium awaiting their coronation as conference champions.

Just like last year, the camera panned in on Meyer, a microphone was placed in his hands and he was asked the all-important question: should the Buckeyes be in the Playoff? “I think we deserve a shot,” said Meyer.

Perhaps he has a point. The Buckeyes are fresh off a Big Ten Championship victory over a scrappy Northwestern team and have just one loss on the season. They likely wouldn’t rank above an undefeated Power 5 squad or the still-perfect Notre Dame Irish, but the 1-loss Buckeyes believe themselves to be bonafide Playoff contenders.

It’s not a popular opinion, especially in Athens, GA and Norman, OK, but Meyer might have a point. Here’s why Ohio State deserved to be the College Football Playoff field:
