Ohio State Football: 3 takeaways from last-ditch playoff effort vs. Northwestern
3. Dwayne Haskins should be a leading contender for Heisman
Despite an incredible group of quarterbacks, Dwayne Haskins has demonstrated some of the best talent at the position this year. Coming into the game, Haskins has averaged a 70 percent completion rate and thrown for 42 touchdowns. His performance has been instrumental in the Buckeyes’ success thus far in the season.
This game was no different. Haskins completed 34 of 41 passes tonight, which is a 83 percent completion percentage. He threw five touchdowns for a total of 499 yards.
Kyler Murray, of the Oklahoma Sooners, and Tua Tagovailoa, of Alabama, are the only other two players that are even in the same conversation as Haskins for the Heisman. However, Dwayne Haskins has more passing yards and more touchdowns than both of them. Sure, Tagovailoa’s team has a better record, however the Alabama defense has been much better than Ohio State’s.
It will be a close call as to who the 2018 Heisman Trophy goes to, but after this game, Haskins may have just become the front-runner.
