UCF football holds the longest winning streak in the nation and claimed their second straight AAC crown. The selection committee should give the Knights a chance.

When McKenzie Milton went down with a horrific leg injury in the War on I-4 against South Florida, it could have easily marked the end of the season for the Knights. UCF could have pulled up and reconfigured their goals to a more manageable level. Instead, they kept their sights on finishing the season undefeated and joining the rare group of teams that have won at least 25 games in a row at the FBS level in the 21st century.

They ran away with the win over the rival Bulls, closing out an 11-0 regular season with a 38-10 takedown of the Bulls. Then the Knights spotted Memphis a double-digit lead in the first half of the American Athletic Conference championship game before coming back to win a decisive 56-41 decision for their second straight league crown.

As one of just four teams to finish the regular season undefeated, UCF has dominated its foes on the way to the longest current winning streak in the country. And no other team in the country can boast back-to-back undefeated conference titles. While past seasons’ results do not factor into the reasoning of the College Football Playoff selection committee, they cannot ignore the fact any more than they can completely drown out how other polls view the teams around the country.

But let’s focus solely on their performance in 2018 for a moment. Here are three reasons why UCF wholly deserves one of the four spots in this year’s College Football Playoff.
