The 2018 Cotton Bowl features a battle of two unbeatens. One was expected, Clemson. The other is a surging Notre Dame football team with championship hopes.

Both Notre Dame and Clemson slept well on Saturday night, knowing that they had undeniably played their way into the College Football Playoff. One sits at 13-0 after winning the ACC Championship. The other is 12-0 as they are not a member of a specific conference and therefore didn’t play on Championship weekend.

Either way, both are officially “in” the Playoff and will face off on December 29 at AT&T Stadium. Why should you tune into this one?

3. Retribution for 2012…

Let’s take a step back for a minute to the 2012 season. Alabama has one loss to their name to Johnny Manziel and the Texas A&M Aggies. The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame had put together an undefeated season and at that point seemed to be the favorite to win the BCS National Championship. Of course, we all know that isn’t how things worked out for the Irish.

They lost that game 42-14 in what was the start of a whirlwind of interesting and confusing events surrounding the Notre Dame program (Looking at you Manti Te’o).

This game could, in theory, bring Notre Dame retribution. This team is on the edge of a rematch with Alabama. They are on the edge of what could be the game of the decade for this school, this team. Of course, as it stands now Clemson sits in their way.

If you don’t think that the 2012 matchup is on the minds of the Irish, you are very wrong. Be sure to tune into this matchup, it could be a good one.
