Iowa and Mississippi State football both finished in the middle of the pack in their respective conferences. Each will now vie for an Outback Bowl win.

In a battle between the Big Ten and the SEC, Iowa and Mississippi State will play for conference supremacy in the Outback Bowl.

Both teams enter the game with an 8-4 record. The Hawkeyes placed in second amongst a wild Big Ten West division while the Bulldogs finished in fourth place in the SEC West.

Despite being higher up in their conference, the Hawkeyes come into the matchup unranked. The Bulldogs, on the other hand, are ranked No. 18.

Each team is riding a two-game win streak after winning the final two games of their respective seasons. For Iowa, the season concluded on a high note after squeaking out a close win against Nebraska, whereas Mississippi State handled Ole Miss easily to end the season.

Here are three reasons to watch the Outback Bowl, which is set for a Jan. 1, noon kickoff from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.
