Wisconsin football weathered the storm through a tumultuous 2018 season but it can bookend the year on a high note with a win in the Pinstripe Bowl.

Entering the 2018 season, Wisconsin was widely regarded as a favorite to win the Big Ten West and the entire Big Ten Conference.

However, those hopes fell to the wayside after the Badgers finished the season with an overall record of 7-5.

Even though their dreams of Big Ten glory were dashed, the Badgers still qualified for bowl eligibility and received a bid to the New Era Pinstripe Bowl, which will take place on Dec. 27 at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, N.Y., against Miami.

Miami enters the contest with the same record as Wisconsin. The Hurricanes placed 3rd in the ACC Coastal division.

Here are three reasons to get excited about the New Era Pinstripe Bowl.

3. Wisconsin can snap a streak, Miami can continue winning

Prior to the final game of the season for Wisconsin, the Badgers encountered a lengthy period of alternating wins and losses. Perhaps this trend resulted in their season that failed to live up to the expectations.

The streak started on Oct. 6 when Wisconsin defeated Nebraska. Afterward, the final seven games of the seasons switched between a loss and win each week.

Despite this downward progression, the Badgers can salvage what has been a rocky season with a win against a commendable Miami program.

On the other side, the Hurricanes have the opportunity to build on two consecutive wins to close out the regular reason.

Miami is coming off sizable victories against Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh –– the team that represented the ACC Coastal division in the conference title game.

In terms of record and performance, these two teams seem to match up fairly evenly despite the fact that Wisconsin was pegged to take home the hardware in the Big Ten.

Both teams will have the chance to play at Yankee Stadium, a venue that has become more prominent over the years to host football events thanks to the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. This is the first appearance for either team at the Pinstripe Bowl.

While oranges remain a popular staple in Florida, Miami travels North to get a taste of the Big Apple. Wisconsin, meanwhile, will venture out of the Midwest while making one of its farthest away treks of the season.
