3. Alabama’s strength and conditioning program is appealing
Clay Webb is a no-nonsense kind of guy, which makes him a perfect fit for the process at Alabama, with a business-oriented coach in Nick Saban. Webb wants to be the best player that he can be, and he knows Alabama is the place that can make that a reality.
A big part of that, and one of the secret weapons of Nick Saban’s machine, is strength-and-conditioning coach Scott Cochran, who put into practice Saban’s famed fourth-quarter program, which allows them to constantly be fresh in end of game situations, leading to comeback victories like we saw in Atlanta last weekend.
The eccentric and loud Cochran can be seen holding up both of his arms, four fingers extended from his hand toward the sky for the entirety of the final frame. You can also hear him, his rah-rah motivational “yeah, yeah, yeah’s” reverberating inside the weight room, practice facility, sideline, and probably innocuous lunches and meetings.
Cochran brings the energy every day, never wavering no matter the circumstances. He expects that same energy from his players day-in and day-out. He’s built monsters in Tuscaloosa, and he continues to do so.
Cochran is a big reason Alabama appeals to Webb, according to Dawg Nation:
“I feel like they have a little bit better workouts,” said Webb. “I’ve got to give it to coach Cochran. He can run a pretty good weight program and I feel like it would help me a bunch.”
