The 2018 college football bowl season us upon us. Here are the five non-College Football Playoff bowls you need to watch this postseason.

The 2018 college football bowl season is finally upon us. With the holidays growing closer so are the bowl games that we’ve known and loved for the past century. While the College Football Playoff will draw most of the mainstream media attention there are a few ‘other’ bowl games that have put together some meaningful matchups, at least in the eyes of football nerds.

The missed opportunities for the bigger name schools are all around us. College football had the chance to put Michigan against LSU for the first time ever, while UCF would have a chance to knock off in-state power Florida. Yet the bowl decision makers gave us another Michigan-Florida bowl game and UCF versus LSU in a meaningless contest. The bowl selectors also have a Miami-Wisconsin rematch in New York that no one wants to see, Kentucky against Penn State as well.

The offensive pop gun outputs of bowl games like Michigan State versus Oregon, Northwestern versus Utah, and Cal versus TCU have the makings of really boring bowl games. Oh, and there’s a complete dud of Minnesota versus Georgia Tech. The outgoing coaching staffs who have taken on new jobs killed what could’ve been an exciting contest between North Texas and Utah State- especially if Seth Littrell is the new coach at Kansas State.

One big matchup I am excited for is Texas against Georgia, even if I expect the Bulldogs to knock out the Longhorns. With all the griping put aside, here are the five bowl games that should whet your appetite for the College Football Playoff.
