1. How important was Kyler Murray in Oklahoma’s 2018 run?

Everyone is arguing that Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa may very well be one of the best quarterbacks we have seen in quite a while. He has shined week after week and to many that has earned him the Heisman trophy. However, here is the question. How important is Tua in the grand scheme of things to Alabama? Could the Tide have run the gauntlet the way they did with Jalen Hurts under center? Yeah, they probably could.

Now, we look at Oklahoma. How important is Kyler Murray to Oklahoma? Does this team finish 11-1 with a berth into the playoff without Murray under center? I am not so sure. This team only lost one game this season, but the others were a lot closer than anything we saw on the scoreboard for Alabama, Clemson or Notre Dame.

What was it that pushed Oklahoma over the top? It is simple really: Kyler Murray. His ability to extend drives through the air and with his legs is truly unmatched by either of the other Heisman finalists.

Without Murray, we are looking at an 8-4 or 7-5 Oklahoma team at best. That isn’t to take away from any other player that has had a strong season for the Sooners. It is simply to say that without Murray they are not a Playoff team and that point, in itself, should win him the Heisman trophy.
