The 2019 Texas A&M football recruiting class took a hit with the loss of corner Jeffery Carter to Alabama, but the Aggies already have eyes on a replacement.
The No. 2 ranked recruiting class took some hits following championship weekend. Linebacker Christian Harris and corner Jeffery Carter, both longtime Texas A&M commits, flipped their pledged to Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
This duo won’t be the last pair of high profile national recruiting to seek an opportunity to play ball in Tuscaloosa, but their absence leaves the Aggies with holes in their 2019 class that need to be filled in short order. The early signing period begins on December 19, a date approaching quickly.
The Aggies won’t let Carter go without a fight, but the focus on adding a new top-end corner will intensify down the stretch. The most obvious candidate to fill that void is Dekaney, TX corner Marcus Banks.
Banks has been on the Aggies’ radar for some time now and is as decorated as they come. The 4-star recruit was in play for one of the last slots in a star-studded class before Carter left the fold. Given the circumstances, his addition has been elevated from a great addition to a must-have.
Just like Carter’s recruitment, it won’t be easy. Banks is being sought after by Alabama, Florida and Florida State in addition to his interest from the Maroon and White. Even with the competition, Texas A&M appears to be out in front. Three experts on 247 Sports adjusted their predictions for Banks following the Carter news. All three tabbed Banks to the Aggies. While projections don’t mean much until there are signatures on paper, it’s a positive early sign for Jimbo Fisher’s staff.
Texas A&M has moved past the days of fighting Texas Tech and Baylor for recruits. The battle has moved on to the biggest brands in the country. Fisher has already won a few and the losses don’t sting nearly as much when they’re followed by more good news. If the consensus opinion proves true, good news for the Aggies might be on its way in the form of a commitment from Marcus Banks soon enough.
