3. Chip Kelly’s system is a perfect fit for the dual-threat QB

The other options might have more appeal due to the better seasons they had in 2018 than UCLA, but a dual-threat QB of Daniels’ caliber is a perfect fit in Chip Kelly’s system, which could lead to huge numbers for Daniels down the line at UCLA.

At Oregon, Darron Thomas put up big numbers in Kelly’s system and helped lead the Ducks to the National Championship Game in 2010. A few years later, after Kelly had departed for Philadelphia, Marcus Mariota, playing for Kelly’s offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich, won the Heisman Trophy in the same system.

Mariota came to Eugene to play for Kelly, and while that didn’t work out, he still ended up in that same offensive system and put up huge numbers that lead to his stiff-arm trophy and the Ducks’ second appearance in a national championship game.

Mariota also ended up being the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft, so the stigma that quarterbacks in his offensive system can’t make it in the NFL was put to rest with Mariota’s draft position and then his success at the next level so far.

The allure of playing in Kelly’s system, where the bulk of the offensive load will be on his shoulders, could be appealing for Daniels, particularly if he has seen that Heisman Trophy sparkle in his eyes.

Daniels would be a perfect Chip Kelly quarterback.
