Rutgers football had a quite forgettable 2018 season with a 1-11 finish. What should the Scarlet Knights wish for to turn things around in 2019?

A 2018 season that was once ripe with promise and progress into the future rapidly descended into a downward spiral for the Scarlet Knights.

The season began with a comfortable and predictable victory against Texas State, but afterward, things took a sharp left turn.

Rutgers then stared down the barrel of a 10-game losing skid, thus finishing the year with a putrid 1-11 season (and a winless record against Big Ten opponents).

To date, it was the worst season in the Chris Ash era. Previously, he had led the Scarlet Knights to a 2-10 year (2016) and a 4-8 season (2017).

There were a variety of problems –– on both offense and defense –– as Rutgers could never find a true foothold on either side of the ball.

An offense comprised of mostly underclassmen paired with injuries and a lack of depth on defense proved fatal for the Scarlet Knights as they had their lowest win total since 2002.

Obviously, a lot needs to be cleaned up and refined heading into next season. For now, though, one aspect of the team remains positive –– the youthful core, particularly on offense that will remain mostly intact for next season.

In light of the fast-approaching holiday season, here is a small list of items Rutgers should wish for come in the new season.
