Despite a setback due to decommitments, two recent commitments in Texas A&M football’s 2019 class should give the Aggies a boost.

If you didn’t already know, the biggest struggle for Texas A&M in the recent seasons has been within the secondary. That isn’t to say that there aren’t good players along that unit or that they haven’t made some big plays in pst years, it’s simply stating that the secondary has been the weakest link for Texas A&M.

For the second year in a row, the Aggies flipped a JUCO prospect from Oregon. Last December, it was defensive tackle Mohamed Diallo. This year, the Aggies hit big in the secondary with the addition of Arizona Western cornerback Elijah Blades‍.

Of course, we all remember the biggest name the Aggies flipped from Oregon just a handful of years ago. Though not a JUCO name, Johnny Manziel did quite a few good things for the Ags. Hopefully Blades can have the same type of effect.

Blades is regarded by many as the top JUCO corner in the country, something that this defense needs in 2019 with some of the big names along that touted defensive line heading out into the world to the NFL.

There is much question surrounding that unit and how good they will be in a seasons time, though holding onto Mike Elko who had a head coaching offer at Temple is a big win. While Blades can’t help the line improve next season, he can be a big time boost to the secondary. He is known for his length and cover skills.

Blades held offers from Alabama, Florida, LSU and USC, just to name a few.

The Aggies also picked up Alabama linebacker Ke’Shun Brown. He is the 24th commitment in the class and is one of the better linebackers in the nation — a statistic that is quite exciting for a position that is shaping up to be quite thin in that unit. We’re unsure if Tyrel Dodson will return, and they have a few players coming back from injury that could very easily be a different person than they were prior to.

Brown held offers from the likes of Alabama, Georgia and Florida.

With the addition of these two, the Aggies are up to the No. 2 overall class in the nation ahead of National Signing Day which isn’t all that far away as it’s in February and the early signing period begins on Dec. 19.
