Arkansas football coach Chad Morris is making headway on the recruiting front. The Razorbacks have a top 20 class entering the early signing period.

The 2018 season was a tough pill for Arkansas football fans to swallow. The regime change was always going to have some bumps along the way, but a home loss to a Conference USA squad left a sour taste in the mouths of even the most diehard Razorbacks. Morris asked them to keep the faith. The early returns of that faith are only just beginning to be harvested.

A year removed from having the worst recruiting class in the SEC. Arkansas has the No. 8 class in the conference as the early signing period approaches. The fact the Razorbacks’ class is No. 18 nationally and not even in the top half of their own conference is part of playing in the SEC. Even with the challenges, Arkansas is responding well in Morris’ first full class with the program.

The headliners of the class are tight end Hudson Henry and wide receiver Treylon Banks. It really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise the same coach that recruited and developed Deshaun Watson and found success with a spread attack at SMU is on his way to amping up the once run-heavy offense at Arkansas.

Henry and Banks make a pair of 4-star recruits, two of eight blue chip commits the Razorbacks hold. That’s the same number as Mississippi State, who finished the regular season in the Top 25, and Tennessee and as many as Ole Miss, Kentucky and Vanderbilt have combined.

One recruiting class isn’t going to fix the Razorbacks, but they’ll certainly be better off in 2019 than they were in 2018. Morris has this program headed in the right direction.
