Georgia Football: Top 5 potential transfer destinations for Justin Fields
4. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Fields grew up just thirty minutes outside of Atlanta, and he gave consideration to Georgia Tech in his recruitment despite the Yellow Jackets running the flexbone offense, although it was that offense that prevented Fields from giving stronger consideration to the hometown Jackets.
That has obviously changed now with Paul Johnson‘s retirement as Georgia Tech has decided to bring their program into the 21st century with the hiring of Temple’s Geoff Collins to replace Johnson.
Collins is hoping to make Georgia Tech Atlanta’s team, a tall task considering the recruiting behemoth that Kirby Smart has built in Athens. Collins could take a big step in the direction of changing the perception of the Ramblin’ Wreck if he can lure Fields down to Atlanta.
QB will be a big position of need for Georgia Tech and they will undoubtedly be in the mix for graduate transfers or transfers who are granted waivers for immediate eligibility as they flip to a more modern offense. All the current quarterbacks on the roster were recruited to run the option, and they obviously won’t be a fit for Collins’ new system.
The Jackets have the hometown edge for Fields, but would he be willing to jump aboard the rebuilding process instead of looking for a team where he can start right away while also contending? It will be a multi-year rebuild for Georgia Tech as they move on from the triple-option, and line play in particular will suffer in the process, which could make them less appealing for Fields.
Could Fields jump from one side of Clean Old Fashioned Hate to the other? Collins will have his work cut out for him to convince Fields to join him in Atlanta, but it would be foolish to count out the hometown team.
