1. LSU Tigers

The one thing missing from LSU being legitimate national championship contenders is competent QB play.

Joe Burrow‘s transfer from Ohio State was much ballyhooed in the offseason, and while Burrow was given plenty of undeserved credit for LSU’s resurgence in 2018, the Tigers were better this season in spite of Burrow, not because of him.

Burrow will be back in 2019, but his job should be anything but secure as Ed Orgeron looks to get over the Alabama hump in Baton Rouge and lead the Tigers to the top of the SEC West. Burrow was simply not good enough to do that this season as LSU was shutout at home against the Crimson Tide in November.

For the season, Burrow has completed just 57% of his passes for 2500 yards and 12 touchdowns to just 4 interceptions. He was a game manager for Orgeron this season, and while that was all LSU needed in order to garner a Fiesta Bowl berth, more will be needed if they are going to take the next step toward threatening Alabama’s autonomy in the SEC.

Fields could provide a massive upgrade in Baton Rouge, and the former five-star recruit could be the missing piece between LSU and a shot at an SEC Championship and a spot in the College Football Playoff.

LSU makes sense for Fields whether or not he is immediately eligible to play in 2019, and they should be considered the betting favorite for his services, although there will be no shortage of suitors competing to land the transfer signal-caller.
