Ohio State Football: 3 Reasons Zach Harrison will commit to the Buckeyes
1. Ohio State offers the hometown advantage
The most obvious advantage Ohio State holds is that Harrison played his high school football right in the Buckeyes’ backyard. He played at Olentangy Orange High School in Lewis Center, Ohio, which is just a brief half hour drive south down 315 to Columbus.
Being just a half an hour away from home means an easier commute for his family to come and see him play.
Ann Arbor isn’t too far away, but it is close to a three-hour drive to get the Big House. The Wolverines have had success poaching kids out of the state of Ohio historically, but this one will be tougher given how close Harrison is from Columbus.
Recently, Michigan hasn’t had as much success in Ohio as they would like, with Urban Meyer locking down the border to the north.
The Wolverines didn’t sign anyone from Ohio during the 2018 recruiting cycle, and have signed only two players rated four-stars or higher from the state since 2015. Others like Clemson, Notre Dame, and even recently Kentucky have been able to poach some high-end talent out of Ohio, but the borders have recently been closed for the Wolverines.
You can never underestimate what it means for recruits to have the opportunity to stay close to home, and Ohio State offers that for Harrison.
