3. Anything but last place in Pac-12 recruiting for 2019

No one wants to be last but as it stands right now, the Utes have the No. 12 recruiting class in the conference which is good for dead-last. It’s surprising to see since the Utes had the conference’s fifth-best class last season and have No. 5 for the 2020 cycle already.

Kyle Whittingham is a solid coach who players seem to love playing for but he hasn’t quite reeled in the big fish in 2019. Could this just be an off-year for recruiting? It’s possible, but you’d think a Pac-12 South title would help matters.

Utah only has 10 commits as of Dec. 18, so there’s nowhere to go but up, but there’s still a chance the program finishes with a 12th-place finish in the recruiting ranks — though I wouldn’t bet on it.

Fans want to see something other than the No. 12 class in the Pac-12 and they’ll learn more on National Signing Day in February but also on Dec. 19’s early signing day.

The Utes still have some big-time targets left on the board, but even adding some solid three-star prospects would help this program out of the Pac-12’s cellar.

The No. 79 national class is not going to cut it in the Pac-12 for years to come. This wish is to get Utah out of last place in the conference and into the top-50 nationally.
