Utah Football: 5 holiday wish list items for Utes in 2019
2. A healthy Tyler Huntley
Although Jason Shelley showed flashes of being a solid dual-threat quarterback for Utah, another year of him learning behind veteran quarterback Tyler Huntley would be ideal.
Shelley was thrust into action at the end of the season following Huntley’s injury and the offense wasn’t quite the same. The junior quarterback has been one of the better surprises for Utah in the past two seasons and a healthy Huntley would be a welcomed addition for the offensive which will have a new coordinator in 2019.
Huntley passed for 2,400 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2017 when fully healthy and missed the last four games of the 2018 season before the bowl game and still had 1,788 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was on pace to break all of his previous career-highs and, who knows, maybe his experience would have helped lead the Utes past Washington in the Pac-12 title game.
Don’t get me wrong, Shelley is going to be a star in Salt Lake City before his Utah career is over, but getting a healthy Huntley back for an entire season could yield a Pac-12 title for the Utes in 2019.
