With a clear need at quarterback and an offense returning key playmakers, Florida State football is an enticing option for Justin Fields.

With Justin Fields entering the NCAA Transfer Portal, it seems likely the talented quarterback will leave Georgia. Which makes Fields, as we begin early signing period, the nation’s most coveted recruit for the second year in a row—even if he has already played a year in college football.

Fields would be a great fit at any school he chooses to attend. In fact, Fields is talented enough to start at just about any program—with the exception of Alabama, Clemson, and, well, Georgia, where he spent a frustrating year behind Jake Fromm.

It’s a difficult position for the Dawgs: Fromm is a clear leader and standout quarterback. Nevertheless, many expected Fields to take over the starting role. As one of the decade’s highest-rated recruits, Fields is simply too talented to remain on the sideline.

Should Fields transfer, potential landing spots include Ohio State and Oklahoma—assuming, of course, that both Dwayne Haskins and Kyler Murray enter their respective drafts. There is also Penn State, where Fields originally committed, and Mississippi State, where former Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead is now head coach.

There is also a case for Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M, given his prior relationship with Fields at Florida State. Willie Taggart, the Noles’ head coach, made a late push for Fields when he arrived in Tallahassee, but ultimately fell short.

Here are five reasons why this year might be different.
