4. Friendly offense

Justin Fields’s talent as both a runner and passer would make him a perfect fit for the offense head coach Willie Taggart is trying to establish in Tallahassee.

Taggart’s Gulf Coast Offense is based on the various spread-tempo schemes he studied while revamping South Florida’s offense, including Baylor, Ole Miss and Clemson. Taggart wants to play fast, run the ball, and give his quarterback high-percentage throws with the occasional deep shot.

And he likes to run the quarterback. A dual-threat who can make big plays down the field: sounds a lot like Fields.

Also attractive would be the opportunity to work with Kendal Briles, son of former Baylor coach Art Briles, who will likely become Florida State’s offensive coordinator. While at Baylor, the younger Briles helped pioneer the program’s high-scoring spread-tempo offense, improbably catapulting Baylor to among college football’s elite contenders. The combination of Briles, Taggart, and Fields could do the same for Florida State.
