Over the past couple of seasons, Iowa has had success in getting quick, athletic receivers to Iowa, something they seemed to be missing ever since the departures of receivers like Marvin McNutt and Derrell Johnson-Kulianos. But, receivers such as Ihmir Smith-Marsette and Brandon Smith have helped the Iowa passing game regain its explosive element. In the 2019 class, Desmond Hutson appears to be the next guy in pushing the Iowa passing game in the right direction.

Hutson is the classic possession receiver that Kirk Ferentz loves to target in the redzone, as Hutson stands at 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds. His top end speed isn’t great but his fantastic hands are what’s more important in offense like Iowa’s. His style of play is actually similar to a player that is from the state of Iowa, but was a Cyclone, and that is Allen Lazard. Lazard was a possession receiver with great hands but not as fast others, but it didn’t slow him down in any way.

Iowa has done a great job of quenching the need of wide receivers of the last couple seasons and Desmond Hutson continues to fill that need.
