Texas A&M football inked the majority of their 2019 recruiting class during the early signing period securing a likely Top 5 class once the group is finalized.
The Aggies recruited reasonably well under Kevin Sumlin, signing a handful of 5-star players and a host of talented quarterbacks (two of which would go on to win Heisman Trophies). Jimbo Fisher was brought in to turn those sporadic splashes into a steady flow of elite level talent. One of the first measures of success was his ability to recruit against the Aggies’ biggest geographic rivals, LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma and yes, Texas.
Texas A&M stormed out to the nation’s No. 1 class, running circles around the rest of the Power 5 programs in the state of Texas. Frustrated folks in Austin called the hot start unsustainable and fluky, now the Aggies have inked the majority of the 2019 class and sit securely inside the Top 5 classes in the nation.
Here’s what the top 10 looks like after the first day of the early signing period:
- Alabama
- Georgia
- Texas A&M
- LSU
- Oregon
- Clemson
- Michigan
- Oklahoma
- Texas
- Penn State
There are a couple of targets left on the board for most of these programs, but the majority of the classes have been signed, sealed and delivered. There might be wiggling in the ranks, but Texas A&M is going to finish Top 5 in the nation. Texas will finish Top 10. No other programs in the state of Texas will finish inside the Top 25.
Jimbo Fisher’s impact on the recruiting front is evident. The talent is on campus. Now all the Aggies have to do is turn those elite players into high-profile wins, something easier said than done. For now, fans will have to be content with beating Texas in one more thing — and that’s always something worth celebrating.
