3. All-Big Ten Tommy Stevens

Unless Justin Fields decides to transfer to Penn State, Tommy Stevens will be the starter for Penn State next season. He was the clear backup this season and is one of the best backups in the country.

He will be a very different quarterback from Trace McSorley. Both quarterbacks can run the ball, but Stevens has a very different style from his predecessor.

McSorley was more elusive and a much smaller player at six feet and 200 pounds. Stevens is 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, and he may be even more athletic than McSorley.

To put Stevens’ size in perspective, Cam Newton, Carson Wentz, and Ben Roethlisberger have almost the same height and weight. His athletic ability alone gives him a strong chance to be an All-Big Ten player.

Beyond his NFL size, Stevens has thrown for 304 yards and four touchdowns in limited playing time the past three seasons. Also, he has rushed for eight touchdowns and caught two touchdowns.

As a redshirt senior, Stevens can and should be one of the top individual players in the country. He could be better than McSorley if he quickly builds chemistry with his wide receivers, who are next on this wish list.
