Go ahead and call me crazy, but Oklahoma football has a real shot at upsetting Alabama for a spot in the National Championship. Let’s talk about it.
Let’s be real here — despite having a Heisman winner, Oklahoma is the underdog in this one and very few people are giving the Sooners much of a chance to win this one at all. However, that isn’t at all fair to what Oklahoma has been able to do this season.
So if Oklahoma has the ability to win this one, how are they going to do it? Why would they even be able to pull off an upset over the inarguable top team in the nation? Let’s get to breaking it down, shall we?
5. Revenge was obtained in the Big 12 Championship and it’s a big deal
Oklahoma had one loss this season and that was to the Texas Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry. Yeah, don’t act like you didn’t know it happened either. We all know that one, or ya know every single Texas fan who doesn’t know how to shut up when one good thing goes their way.
We aren’t here to talk about how annoying the Longhorns are though, we are here to look at the Sooners and how their Big 12 title means a whole heck of a lot heading into this pivotal matchup with the Tide.
Oklahoma lost to Texas, despite a big time fight late by Kyler Murray and company. At that point, with how Michigan was playing, it looked like that loss would keep the Sooners out of the Playoff. However, that isn’t what happened, especially as Oklahoma got big time revenge in the Big 12 Championship against the Longhorns. That revenge game sets up the Sooners with a big time amount of momentum heading into this matchup.
Yes, Alabama won their title game too, but that was expected and there wasn’t anything riding on it for them. There was a CFB Playoff berth riding on the title game for the Sooners and in the face of struggle, Kyler Murray puled it off. That is a big deal heading into a game like this in my opinion.
