5. The common opponent: Clemson

These two teams have had one common opponent this season, the Clemson Tigers. While Clemson heads to the College Football Playoff to take on Notre Dame, these two are left to face off against each other in the Gator Bowl.

The Aggies played Clemson in Week 2. That was when Kelly Bryant was still an option for the team and when no one believed that Texas A&M was going to amount to much of anything this season. Of course, it wasn’t a win, but it was one of the more exciting games of the season coming down to a two-point difference in the final minutes.

NC State, however, wasn’t as lucky. They were routed by the Tigers 41-7 in Week 7. They were dominated all the way around in a game that most Wolfpack fans are pretty eager to forget.

What tells you the toughness of a team more than their head to head matchup with a top ranked team? I don’t know, but this point is definitely in favor of the Aggies.
